Wyoming is one excellent place to rock hunt. One of my dad’s friends, she and her family often went to Wyoming to rock hunt. When my dad mentioned to her I was a rock hound, she said she’ll bring home some for me. While my dad thought maybe 4-5 rocks, it ended up being a large box. A lot of seashell fossils, two pieces that resembled dark green jade, granite, marble, flint rock, shale. My dad was only going to choose a few, but she insisted he bring home the entire box. She and the family had brought home 7-8 boxes for themselves. Talk about a good score. I still have some, and would have to find which box they’re in.

I hope to find some jade this summer. My wife and I are lapidaries and we have a 6 wheel (8″) machine in our basement.
