Recently, while walking Pumpkin I found a bird egg that was just resting on the grass, nowhere near a tree. I noticed a hairline crack, but it appeared viable, with no liquid leaking. I cupped it gently and upon arriving home I placed it in a nest that I found just a day earlier.
This is the same robin I posted yesterday, giving me just one wary eye. After she took off for a bit, I quickly climbed up a ladder and grabbed this picture.
Aha! Two gorgeous blue eggs and the white one I placed in the nest. If the odd egg hatches I will be thrilled to death. I may then be known as the man who saves birds. Do you think she will continue to lay eggs? How long do they incubate?

It’ll be so neat if it hatches! According to Wikipedia robins lay 3 to 5 eggs and incubation takes 14 days. Since there’s only 2 blue eggs in the nest she may be going to lay more! Keep us informed!

Thanks for taking the time Jude. I thought a birder out there would just know off the top of their head. I’ll look to see if she produces more. Perhaps with the white egg she may think she is done.

I do hope it hatches! The robin eggs are such a beautiful shade of blue. No wonder I like that color so much. š

A couple of weeks before the hatching. The white egg may be another bird’s. Which would be very interesting indeed š

Well it most certainly is another bird’s, since I found it and carried it home…

I’m looking forward to updates. It really would be cool if the egg hatches. The cracks a bit of a worry but there are now many many people willing it to be a happy ending.. š

The crack is a worry but the egg had a bit of weight and no fluid. It’s a long-shot, but we shall see.

The trick will be to convince her to mother it, but cowbirds deposit eggs in other birds’ nests and the mama’s raise it. It will be fun to see who the mystery bird is.

I am planning a discussion with the mama bird as soon as it hatches. I’ll bring treats.

Ha ha!! I’m taking all of my animals and birds to a wildlife rescue about an hour from here. We’ve got a couple of trips planned this year… one to your old neck of the woods. I bet the bird gets raised with the others… it’s usually not a problem.
