Found in Texas, this is a great big example of a wondrous and spectacular tree.

  1. Great execution of a very difficult shot, especially the contrast, shadows and highlights. I love discovering photos like this where the person behind the camera has the ability to translate something familiar to something abstract. Thanks for posting.

  2. Hi Mike,
We certainly have wonderful oak trees down here in (southern) Texas, but unfortunately there’s the blight of oak wilt, which, if undetected/untreated, can kill those magnificent trees in just about one year. When we were looking for a place to move to, we found some beautiful houses but discarded them as there were only those dead trees on the property. Our new property [http://pitsfritztownnews.wordpress.com/2014/04/08/the-new-house/] does have some oak wilt, and a few trees are dead, unfortunately, but we hope we can save the others. Keep your fingers crossed.
    Best regards from southern Texas,
    Pit

  3. I’d not seen Live Oaks until my son moved to Charleston … pretty amazing! I must have taken 100 photos! I could not put the camera down. Pretty cool shot!
