I don’t have a summer home, unless I count my year round home in the summertime. But this beauty really is a summer home for some rich folks who summer in an exclusive gated community in Port Austin, Michigan. I got in, took some photos, I got out.
Is that what is is? I see what appears to be the garage on one side and I thought another wing on the right. Guest house wouldn’t surprise me! It is beautiful though. I’m glad you made it out before getting caught infiltrating the almighty gated community!
How the other half (a percent) live eh? Nice capture Mike.. I had an image of you running toward the ‘gate’ with a couple of german shepherds on your tail not so closely followed by an over weight rent-a-cop with a gun he’s likely to start firing wildly any minute.. People out there just don’t realise the risks the average blogger goes to on a daily basis.. 😉
HA! Great comment Adrian. I would be much more concerned about the German Shepherd than the rent a cop. And I’m sure they assumed I was some sort of maintenance man.
🙂 I like how discussion is going on …. and imaging you Mike as a maintenance man gives an exact response :” Do people living in houses like this , know anything about people and place where they are living “? and another of my questions is : ” Owning something like this “summer house ” are they happier then we that do not have this possibility to have something like this ( I am not sure if I explain myself right , excuse my bad english )?
I think your first question is….are these rich people able to relate to common folks who are not rich? My answer would be that the best of them can do so, but many were born to rich parents and have no clue what it is like to struggle or live in the real world.
Second question…..are they happier. Well, they don’t go to sleep hungry or worrying about bills but to maintain that lifestyle would bring with it some stress of it’s own. I think there is plenty of evidence to suggest that being rich does not make you immune to disease, addiction, and mental illness.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment.
I don’t understand how gated communities work. As far as I am aware we don’t have them in Oz. If it is a secure compound then who was the slacker that let you in? Surely keeping you (us) out is the whole point? I think you should continue your guerilla-style photographic expeditions. I like the flagrant boldness of this!
I wasn’t quite as bold as I have made myself out to be. A friend had an associate there and we calmly drove in, and calmly drove out. Of course had the guard not let us in, I would have hiked along the beach and climbed up to the homes, flagrant bold person that I am. And since I have never lied to you, I come clean in this response. Tell no one.
It’s very pretty. They probably give work to landscapers and others to take care of it while they are away.

I think that community has their own staff to provide all needed services. This includes a riding stable and a golf course.

OK. But you can keep the “gated” part.

Nice “cottage”. It’s a shame they couldn’t afford a bigger one.

Did you notice the guest house behind it?

It’s okay for a cottage, but probably takes too long to clean. 🙂

I would not be able to pay the utility bills. Not to mention the butler.

We have ‘summer people’ from overseas who have holiday homes in some our loveliest bays and are only there occasionally. Such a waste

I guess when you have more money than you can spend you figure out new things to spend it on. I have never had that problem.
