Small Fish

No harm came to this fish who was tossed back into the water within 45 seconds of catching him. I do not have a 1″ thumb. I only eat fish that are big enough to filet. This little fellow was pretty enough to be photographed and swam away quickly when released.

  1. Have not fished for a long spell . . . but all my hooks were debarbed. Except for the rare idiot that swallowed the lure, what I caught lived on to tell the tale of dancing above the waters.

All my gear has now passed to my nephews . . . they bow-fish as well. I don’t think there is a catch-and-release in bow-fishing.

  2. Growing up, I played many a catch and release game … one of my fondest memories of my grandparents’ cabin on the Eel River. I have experienced the thrill of reeling in a couple of “keepers” but now find sport in the stories of those that got away.

  3. Phew! I was so happy to see that you released the fish. When I first saw the photo my first thought was it was too cute to not be back in the water. I like to keep the interaction with my meals very anonoymous, so I just go to Safeway with my sunglasses on and pick out someting that’s been shot and sliced by someone else. 2013 may see me inching closer to being vegetarian 🙂
    Happy New Year!

    • No, it was the 3rd little thing I caught but yes for a tiny thing he did make his presence known. He was 3 lbs 10 ounces away from being a 4 pounder. What I’m looking for is a 10 pounder, but I would settle for 2 fives.
