An old Colorado building with a distinct Western feel also displays some serious security with barred windows and doors. Note the glass block windows that are probably original to the store. The last few customers entered to find the doors locked when they were ready to leave. Their cries for help are still heard 50 years later, and this store is feared at night.
Looks like a jail, not a shop.

Nice photo and words. May I ask, where in Colorado? I am a Colorado native and live just north of the Colorado border now.

I am in Greeley presently, but lived in Lakewood, just west of Denver, for 20 years prior. Are you in Cheyenne or Laramie?

Oh, great…I have some friends here in Cheyenne who use the VA hospital here. Thanks for your service. I was a Marine but that was many years ago.

My Dad was a sailor on the USS Bon Homme Richard from ’58 to ’62. I was a Marine from ’86 to ’95–flew KC-130s.

You had a long stretch and your service, as a Marine pilot, was significant, whereas mine was safe and easy. Thank you for that.
Did you go to training either in Pensacola or Milton, Fl?

Nah, mine wasn’t tough. I got to see the world and my time ended before the current Afghanistan/Iraq war (I spent the first Iraq war doing war training in Norway). My wife and I lived in Milton for about a year while I attended basic pilot training in Pensacola/Milton before heading to Corpus Christi for multi-engine training. Sounds like you spent some time in the Florida panhandle?

Spent my entire enlistment in Milton except for A school. Good duty. Fished a lot. Trained as a reciprocating engine mechanic. Met my wife there. She was in the Navy too. Will be married 42 years in January.

Yes, my wife and I really liked Milton, too. Lots of good memories. That’s cool that you met your wife there…congrats on 42 years!

I got lucky. Thanks. We went back to the base in 2000 and it was real trippy to see it again after 28 years. It was exactly the same….frozen in time.
