I think these birds are both beautiful and bizarre. This guy sat nearby as I fished, hoping for some treat along the way. I left him some squid, and bid him a good day.

Rude Awakening

An angry pelican looks with disgust at a pretty sea bird who has awakened him. I guess the sign was not enough to deter the white bird, or perhaps he is a poor reader.

As this large group of birds flew close to the current by the seaside, they would peel off one at a time doing what appeared to be a rehearsed and synchronized air ballet. It was quite remarkable to observe and I am certain it was joyous and playful for them.

Bird Launch

Falcon or Hawk

I came upon this magnificent bird yesterday on a lightly traveled country road. Unfortunately he was standing on the road and did not move as I drove past him. When I stopped and approached him he flew just a few feet and stopped where I took this picture. I don’t know if he is young or hurt, and I left quickly so as to cause him as little stress as possible. My first sense is that this is a falcon, but he may be a hawk. Thoughts?

Refuge
