A very large calf feeds from her mother as another looks on. Is the onlooker a proud father? That would make it a bull. Even I know that. Are these Texas longhorns and are they vacationing in Colorado? I do hope they have a chance to get out and see the sights.

The eyes of Texas are upon you….
That is one huge baby. It kept slamming his big head into that poor cow’s utter. I think mom just wanted to be done with it.
I Love Cows..
Have a burger.
You are funny Mike
Seems like the bull is weighing his chances.
He has to put the baby to sleep to make it happen
Hi Mike,
Nice shot. And quite abig calg to be still sucking. I don’t know enough about cattle to be sure that they’re Longhorns, but they sure do have quite long horns, don’t they?
Talking of Longhorns, what about “Wow” here: http://pitspersoenlichesblog.wordpress.com/2011/03/01/wow/
I’m sorry that this is in my German-language blog, though. I still need to reblog it in my English-language one.
Have a good one,
Pit
Yes a very big baby!! I just looked at your monster steer. Very impressive!
Great shot! Though I can see why my dad always had our Holsteins de-horned.
They are Holsteins? Not Texas Longhorns?
No, I’m not sure what yours are here, but I was raised with Holstein-Friesans–the black and white ones.
H-F’s have shorter horns, and you won’t find the solid color, ike the bull. Then you have the brown and white. Mmm. An interracial marriage here.
As long as they are decent steer I do not care and wish them well.
Please don’t tell him.
And thank you the lady apronhead.
Even tho those horns look dangerous too most people, from my experience I can say, that cows that are de-horned (no matter if it s a natural breed or got done) are pretty agressive cause they are hornless… I ve never got attacked by others, especially the Scottish Highlands are so calm & nice..But the Galloways..wow..I would never come to close to them again
This is all new for me. I did not grow up with cows in New York City.
Cows can be really lovely & gentle, but it s good to have respect
Horses are way nicer & easier to handle lol A lot of people here loved their trips to New York, I would go crazy there..Way too many people, all that noise & buildings..Well, I m a “Country-Girl”
And I have become a ‘country boy’.
That s a good thing
Happy Weekend!
Ha ha, what delightful cows.
We are having them over for dinner. Get it?
She looks like a proud Momma cow, moooooooooooo!!!
I’m thinking she was thinking ‘how much longer is this kid gonna need milk?’ A 400 Lb baby.
What an amusing photo! And I posted my calf (cow) just yesterday
And I liked your pretty calf picture.
Would have been kind of funny if the bull in the background had been brown like the Mother.. Nice shot Mike!
Thanks Chill.
Oooooh! What big horns you’ve got!
All the easier to corner you with, my dear.
I can run faster than that cow!
I have to tell you, I love the sparrow in your header photo! I’ll leave the cattle to the ranchers…
Thank you! I think I have the entire picture of that sparrow in one of my first posts.
I love your photos; really enjoy your blog. I’ve nominated you for The Versatile Blogger Award. Thanks for sharing all the beauty you capture!
